BIG NETHER [on pause]

2020 performance at Danspace Project has been cancelled due to the pandemic

conceived and directed by lily gold, created in collaboration with Mary Read, performed by both

process footage of showings at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Danceh0l0 is available

big nether is co-created through improvisation, dialogue, and fifteen years of deep intimacy. our practice is grounded in improvisation, framed by exploring movement, song, and weaving as prayer and offering. layered into this, we have been working to erode internalized notions of taboo, by finding pleasure within what we’ve identified as such. through a lens that aims to decenter whiteness, our discourse has centered on: engagement with vulnerability as resilience toward the poisons of patriarchy/racial capitalism, ways to be in grief communally, our relationships with spirituality/quests to integrate our spiritual selves in our work, the complexity and problematics of New Age-ism, and epigenetics and healing inherited trauma/connecting with inherited wisdom.
